Final Project - Mystique

57 East Cordova Street, Vancouver

  • Who we are: A new, fashion forward, trendy boutique that sells a variety of women’s clothing ranging from dresses and denim to accessories and shoes. We carry multiple brands including Only, Buttons, BB Dakota, French Connection, Vero Moda, Steve Madden, Mavi, and Rich & Skinny.

  • Who we sell to: Our target customer is the fashion conscious 20-30 year old; attends social occasions, but also is always looking for new, fashionable clothes to wear to the office as well. She likes to mix up her brands, and doesn’t shop for single items, but rather a full head to toe look.

  •  What we look like: Our store is located in Gastown in Vancouver, and it is as tasteful and beautiful as the clothes we carry. Our store has hardwood floors, our walls are painted a light cream color, and we have various items of décor around the store. We like to organize our clothing by color story rather than designer to create a smooth, flowing theme around our store. Our store does have a loft in it, but it is office and storage space, and is not accessible to customers. Rent in our location is $4650/month, and we feel Gastown is a prime area for us to be located in, due to the high traffic in the area from other similar boutiques nearby. Gastown also gets a large amount of foot traffic from tourists, and that will give us extra business as well. We have the following print of a
feather bouquet incorporated in our store as curtain for our change rooms, and also it is hanging as a mural behind our cash desk.

We feel the idea of feathers is very feminine and beautiful, and is very much on trend right now due to the movie The Black Swan. We saw a variety of feathers hitting the runway this season from designers like Zac Posen and Alexander McQueen, as detailed on the following trend board.

Below are photographs of the various decorative items we have in the store, in addition to furniture and paintings. We also have decorated our store in a vintage feel, showing photos of Paris, which we feel really gives off a classy, elegant vibe.

Vintage Vintage Vintage

I continue to love antiques and vintage items. Whether its clothing, furniture, or even old books; the idea of a story and a history behind items fascinates me.

A few beautiful things I found on the internet while on a search for old hatboxes:

Trend Board

An assignment I had for class was to create a trend board for a current trend reflected in fashion.
I chose feathers. I feel that the movie The Black Swan, the Oscar nominated movie has really influenced feathers into this seasons collections, and also on the red carpet. I placed emphasis on designer Zac Posen, who repeated the use of feathers throughout his spring/summer 2011 collection.
